The course focuses on a design project of a building for educational purposes within public spaces of a residential development.
The urban-planning component of the assignment deals with the urban-planning and landscape project of a wider area of the primary school and child care facilities and the layout of a thematic park. The design component deals with project development within a particular context,
building lot and the planned program which fulfills contemporary architectural requirements in terms of design and technical solutions.
Design studio leads to a full integration of students’ knowledge and skills through a complex and individual design assignment.
The complexity of the assignments increases throughout the four studios in the second and third study years.
Architectural Design Studio is the backbone of the program since it integrates architectural design with urban planning and technical construction requirements. Students are introduced to architectural design process by which space and a building develop through context, form, function, technology and material.
The project integrates knowledge and skills acquired in other courses. It involves experts dealing with particular segments of construction, environment and structures.
Design studio serves the purpose of introducing students to the entire process of architectural design and fundamental building requirements. In addition students master the basic methodological principles of urban planning and landscape design. The Design Studio stimulates an individual and a creative problem-solving approach. The Studio also deals with the analysis, research and use of traditional and modern technologies. Students gain an insight into the relationship between an engineer and a society, professional ethics, sustainable environment impact, managing the project and effective communication.
