Introducing architectural syntax to students. Positioning architecture as a discipline in society, time and culture.
Introduction to the basic themes and methods of architectural design through clearly defined assignments which pursue the basic principles of architectural creation. Typical subjects of architecture, its immanent problems, basic tools and limitations are discovered by using architectural design
as a cognitive process. The understanding of architecture's determinants is conveyed (linearity, planarity, spatiality, construction, function, communication, position, light, measure, scale, materiality).
Introduce students to the basics of architectural design in theory and practice.
By solving simple design assignments, the student masters basic means of creating and organizing space. Lead by the logic of the assignment, students realize the process of design as well as the development and articulation of the architectural construct within a limited number of the basic parameters of architecture (space, time, tectonics).
The student develops: the ability of division into spatial units as well as assembly of units into an additive composite, the understanding of spatial relations, context, function and construction, the skill of visually communicating the architectural idea.
