School Forum: Redux

The publication 'School Forum: Redux' presents the results of work conducted in the course Research, Seminars, Projects in the academic year 2021/2022. The ongoing issue of revising the educational institution network, coupled with the aftermath of recent earthquakes, initiated research into the morphology, network, and potential of all segments of social standard infrastructure: kindergartens, elementary and secondary schools, colleges, sports facilities, and their associated public spaces. 'Školski forum: Redux' problematized the broader space of the School Palaces, placing realized and unrealized projects initiated under the idea of a comprehensive School Forum developed over the past 130 years on the same level, as a basis for dialogue with the present. This research focused particularly on existing educational spaces and their urgent needs, primarily addressing the spatial deficit of the 5th Gymnasium. Extensions and additions stem from internal needs of a more contemporary educational environment, rooted in a comprehensive view that overlays all levels of education and the social standard of the city – elementary school, gymnasium, sports, colleges. Designing possible scenarios for the School Forum began with an intensive workshop at the 5th Gymnasium, connecting school teachers and students with university students, mentors, and guest lecturers in the programming of modern educational spaces, learning from impulses of unrealized complexes and preserving the values of the urban oasis that partly resulted from their absence.
